What is Baccarat?
Baccarat is a comparing card game played between two hands: the Player and the Banker. Despite the names, you are not actually playing against the casino as a player — you are simply betting on which hand will receive the higher value (or whether they will tie). The game has one of the lowest house edges of any casino game, making it popular among experienced gamblers.
Basic Baccarat Rules
Card Values
In baccarat, card values work differently from most card games:
- Aces: Worth 1 point
- 2 through 9: Face value
- 10s, Jacks, Queens, Kings: Worth 0 points
If the total value of a hand exceeds 9, only the second digit counts. For example, a hand of 7 + 8 = 15, but the baccarat value is 5.
How a Round Works
Before cards are dealt, you place your bet on Player, Banker, or Tie. Two cards are then dealt to both the Player and Banker hands. Depending on the totals, a third card may be drawn according to fixed drawing rules. The hand closest to 9 wins.
The Three Betting Options
Banker Bet
The Banker bet wins slightly more than 50% of the time and carries a house edge of approximately 1.06% — one of the best in any casino game. However, winning Banker bets are charged a 5% commission by the casino.
Player Bet
The Player bet has a house edge of approximately 1.24%. It pays even money with no commission. Marginally worse odds than Banker, but still excellent compared to most casino games.
Tie Bet
The Tie bet pays 8:1 but has a house edge of approximately 14.4%. Despite the attractive payout, the tie bet should generally be avoided — it occurs far less frequently than the payout suggests.
Baccarat Strategy Tips
- Always bet Banker: The Banker bet is mathematically the best long-term option in baccarat. Stick with it as your primary wager.
- Ignore pattern tracking: Past results in baccarat have no bearing on future outcomes. Scorecards are for entertainment, not strategy.
- Set a session limit: Decide your budget before sitting down. Baccarat rounds move quickly, especially in Speed Baccarat at SBINGO9.
- Choose lower commission variants: No Commission Baccarat eliminates the 5% fee on Banker wins, offering slightly improved returns.
